Traveling Baseball Program
Traveling 10-15 years olds:
The New Richmond Baseball Club Traveling program is a competitive league where our teams play teams from other communities in the Gopher State League. We are affiliated with MYAS. The season consists of home games and away games. Away games are played at surrounding communities and home games are played at a designated field in the New Richmond Community. Regular season games are played during the week and make-up games could be played on any day of the week, depending on field and player availability. The coaches are responsible for communicating make-up games to the players. The regular season normally begins in the first or second week of May and goes until the end of July. There are no birthrights to State or National tournaments via regular season play. Teams qualify for these tournaments through weekend (Friday-Sunday) State and National qualifying tournaments. The Traveling Team coaches are responsible for entering all traveling teams into their season tournaments. Each team will be entered into 2-5 tournaments during the season. Please note that the National Qualifying tournament is also a State qualifier. Additional tournaments may be played based on a consensus between the coach and the parents. If a team qualifies for State or Nationals via a qualifying tournament, these tournaments would be an additional weekend commitment. Players do need to try out for traveling baseball.
There will be one Traveling Team per age group.
Coach Selection Committee:
The Traveling Coach Selection Committee will interview all interested coaches. All decisions by the Coach Selection Committee are final. Traveling coaches are not guaranteed a coaching position the following year. All coaches must complete an application each baseball season. If there is more than one applicant for any one position, all applicants for that position must be interviewed by the Coach Selection Committee. The Coach Selection Committee must interview ALL NEW coaches.
Playing up rule:
No playing up in age unless extenuating circumstances. For example, there are not enough players to field a team, but there are plenty of players at the previous age group. The NRBC will make the final decision prior to tryouts if there are slots to facilitate playing up. This will ensure the maximum participation of players for any given age group are selected from that age group and chances for participation are not taken away by younger players. Requisitions of players after teams are determined: If any team needs players due to injury/illness, the players are selected based on the following criteria in the following order: The players are selected from the traveling tryout players that did not make the team. The players are selected from the in-house program. The NRBC will contact prospective players based on the above criteria. The coach MUST contact the NRBC when additional players are needed.
Injury/Illness rule for Tryouts:
If a player is injured or ill for tryouts, the following criteria must be met in order for that player to be considered for a position on a traveling team: The injured/ill player must provide a signed written statement from a Medical Doctor that states that the player will be 100% ready to play by May 1st. If the statement is provided, the NRBC and the coaches who will be placing the player on a traveling team will take the previous years scores into consideration. Exceptions to this rule can be brought before the NRBC Board of Directors for ruling.
Evaluators:
There will be 2 impartial judges for most skill assessments, these judges most likely will be from the NRBC. The NRBC will make every effort not to allow evaluators to evaluate players in their childs age group.
Player Selection:
The top 9 players from the evaluations will be chosen with the head coach selecting the remaining 3 players. These 3 players must finish in the top 16 during players evaluations to be considered. These final 3 selections are based on team needs, (ie: speed, catching, pitching, etc.).
Tryout Process:
The following skills will be evaluated during tryouts. The scoring for each skill will be a number between 1 and 5. Each skill will be broken down by attempt, where applicable, and sub-skill. The skills will be weighted based on percentages determined by the Traveling Tryout Committee.
